Lorna Dyson's Engagement Ring

Dad gave Mum an engagement ring with five diamonds set in a straight line when they became engaged.

Mum's Engagement Ring

My dad Arthur Egbert Dyson married my mum Lorna Vera Snell, daughter of Annie Jane Hiles, on 27 July 1924 at St Mark's Church of England, Burke Road, Camberwell, VIC, Australia.

The brick building dates from 1914, the main Church from 1927.

The original band wore out so most of the band was cut off and the original setting was attached to a new gold ring.

The ring was left to me when Mum died on 20 May 2008 at 103 years of age.

My sister Edna claimed the five diamonds represented the five daughters, and the ring should be divided up and one diamond given to each daughter. My sister Joan as executor of the will said that Mum did not want the ring divided up.

The ring was too small for my finger and I didn’t want to have it altered. So I gave the ring to my niece and goddaughter Trudy in 2023 as I wanted her to get the pleasure of having it while I am still alive.
