Ernest James Aburn Webster was born in 22 August 1877 at Bethnal Green, Hackney, Middlesex, England. He was the second born of William James Webster (1853-1928) and Elizabeth Amelia Aburn (1853-1938). His parents had married 1874 in Whitechapel in England. He was the first of several descendents of his mother to have the name 'Aburn' as one of his forenames. Some descendents of Amelia's siblings were also given the name 'Aburn'. James was the middle name of his father and also the first name of his maternal grandfather.

Like his brothers Ernest attended the Turin Street School in Bethnal Green. It is known he was there in 1885. The school opened in 1875 and closed in 1929.

He married Constance Mary Brewer on 11 December 1912 in London. She was the daughter of George Henry Brewer and Ruth Langdon Bygrave

Connie and Ernest had four children. They were Mary Aburn Webster (14 May 1915 - 27 August 2014), Peter Langdon Aburn Webster (4 Aprril 1920 - 21 December 1990) and twins Robert James Aburn Webster (14 December 1921 - 20 April 2001) and Michael Henry Aburn Webster (14 December 1921- 1 October 2009)

Ernest James Aburn Webster died on 31 December 1960 at age 83. His wife Connnie died on 3 May 1969 at age 84.
